Tessa and her team of African language specialists - Nthuseng Tsoeu (Sotho), Thandi Mpambo (Xhosa), Zolani Makhasi (Zulu), Mandla Mbotwa (Xhosa) produced two series on issues relating to African languages for Radio SAfm's Woman Today. The response to the series was overwhelmingly positive, as one listener remarked:

"This series has enriched my life. I had no idea how much fun it could be to learn an African language. No idea that I had been so rude without realising it. My life goal is now to learn Xhosa, because if we all do it, South Africa will be the happiest place in the world. Many thanks to African Voices and SAfm and the Language Committee."

Takalani Sesame Series

Tessa was on the language study panel, headed up by PRAESA's Carol Bloch (PRAESA = Project for an Alternative Education in South Africa) for the Takalani Sesame Series broadcast on SATV. The series wanted to adopt a more multilingual approach with all languages receiving equal exposure.
This was a difficult task for the script writers but the panel hoped to offer simple, useful suggestions that would translate into lively, meaningful scenarios.
